I think that minerals are important but they were not covered much at school. I like the idea of representing their colours as the colours of monsters. I can then imagine stories involving a mineral monster; and in the story, the visuals and actions of the story can represent extra facts about the mineral. I deliberately chose minerals which typically look different from each other so that I couldplay with this idea.
I also have a 'Habits' metric where the monster's habit is a clue, in English, on what the name of the mineral is. E.g. 'Albite' sounds a bit like 'elbow' and sounds a bit like 'bite'; so I say that Albite monster's habit is to 'bite elbows' which I can also state as 'bites its prey's elbow'.
